Our mission
Our goal is to create a place where the community can gather and have a safe, healthy environment to play tennis in.
Background
The Portsmouth High School tennis courts are currently in critical condition. Large cracks cover the court affecting play as well as the safety of players. Debri from the trees surrounding the courts make the surface slippery and sometimes dangerous to play on. There is a lack of lighting on the courts. Lastly, most of the nets are broken and the courts are without windscreens. Both the girls and boy's tennis teams have continuously shown to the community that we deserve funding for these repairs. The girl's varsity tennis team won the Division-3 State Title in 2008 and 2009 and recently won the Division-2 State Title in 2012. Due to the condition of our courts, the varsity teams are not allowed to have play-offs at the courts. Also, whenever a ball hits the crack, it is called a "let" and the point must be replayed, which deeply disrupts play. Being on varsity for the past four years, I can personally account for how annoying and dangerous the courts can be having twisted my ankle multiple times on them. However, with your help, we can work our way towards improving these damaged courts.
